Update...

It's been a very long week. We had around 50 people laid off at work last Tuesday. I wasn't one of them, but I did take a pretty hefty pay cut. Our insurance also went up $56 a month. Right now, I'm grateful to still have a job...and insurance.
Adam assures me that we will survive. We always do! He's so wonderful! I don't know what I'd do with out him. I'm very lucky to have him and 2 my wonderful daughters. It will be a little rough, but we will adjust financially. When it comes down to what REALLY matters, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

TOU Marathon!

I've been talking about this for nearly a year. Now I'm weeks late with the update!
It was beautiful weather. The leaves were changing and there was a brisk breeze at my back. That made for a great start! However, I regret that I didn't do more down hill running during my training. By the time I hit mile 14, my ankles, and knees were swollen. and one hip was popping. This is also the first place Emily and Lacey met me. I started to cry when I saw them- not from the pain (necessarily), but the overwhelming sense of love and support I had. At only one point I thought I may not finish. But I worked too long and too hard to not finish, even if It meant crawling over the finish line. My hope was to finish in under 6 hours. My final time was 5:57. Not great, but a finish nonetheless!
The days that followed were rough. I threw-up for 3 days, and couldn't walk for a week. It's been 2 weeks now and my knees and ankles are still sore. I haven't ran since then. Not for lack of trying, but when I do, it feels like me body is going to fall to pieces.
WAS IT WORTH IT?? ABSOLUTELY! It was an incredible feeling to actually cross that finish line. Even with the pain that followed . I don't think I'll be able to do another FULL marathon. My body can't keep up with me! But I'll definitely do another 1/2!
I can't wait to run again! Aaron told me he takes a month off after a marathon. (Way to go Aaron on running MULTIPLE marathons!!) So I'll give myself a little more time, than get back on it! Thank you to all for your love and support!
I didn't have a camera there, I know others in my family did! Please email me any pictures you have! In the mean time: Here's a link to my pictures on the course. Just search by Weight, Bethany. I only remember 2 cameras during my run, so that smile is REAL happy! But notice the tears at the end!

If you're going through hell, keep going. -Winston Churchill

I Love this quote! What wise words to live by.
Adam is currently working 2 jobs. One is a graveyard shift. Although we're grateful to HAVE the job, it has not been fun. I worked graveyard for 9 years, but I was in my 20's. It's a lot harder in your 30's. We also haven't seen each other much. That's the worst part. He works from 10pm to 6am Sunday-Thursday nights. He sleeps for 5 hours (if he's lucky) and goes to job #2 for about 4 hours. He tries to NOT work on Fridays. I don't normally work Fridays, so when all goes as planned, we have the day together. For some reason, this doesn't work out nearly often enough.
When I'm in Adam's arms, everything is right in the world. When see the beautiful young women my baby girls have become, I remember why we do this. I just miss him.
I've been running a lot to get ready for my marathon. I LOVE to run. It's the only other place I find peace. However, training for a marathon takes so much time. My long run days have been 3 to 5 hours. That's a long time to be away when my family is home. I hope to run for the rest of my life. It will just be nice to Run-4-Fun again. I want to do a few 1/2 marathons next year. They are a lot easier to train for.
MARATHON COUNT DOWN: 6 Days!
I feel ready! But now I'm having Marathon nightmares. Last night I dreamed I was 5 or 6 miles into it, and I stopped to stretch, and fell asleep. I have 6 hours to finish the marathon, the gives me until 1pm. In the dream, I woke up at 4:30pm. I was devastated! I've worked so long and hard for this. All I want to do is FINISH! Have any of my fellow runners experienced MARATHON NIGHTMARES?

Who reads this crap anyway?!?

Okay! I'm not sure anyone really reads any of this any more, but it's a good way to vent!
We've had a rough couple of weeks. Adam got laid off last week and we won't get anything from unemployment for 3 weeks. At first we were both scared. I called Emily (my sister) the other day, and kind of freaked out. (Sorry Emily!) But we have both come to terms with it and we've realized that we WILL be okay. We've been together for 16 years, and things have always somehow worked out. On a more positive note, I LOVE having him around. We've worked opposite shifts since we got married, and at least now I get to spend some time with him. He's been keeping busy with eBay and doing some running around that I'd put off. He's always taken such good care of our family. I couldn't ask for a better husband and father for my teenage (ouch) girls. We will adjust, as everyone does, and move on. It's not ideal, but until his work picks up again, we'll manage. I still have my job, along with our insurance, so there is some stability. We're grateful for the little things, and that we have each other.
I'm still running and still loving it! Emily and I are headed to Ogden in a couple weeks. I'm running the half marathon, then I'll get to be there when Emily finishes her first MARATHON! Thanks to my sweet sister, we made our plans 6 months ago and paid for our hotel. So now, we just show up!
I hope you all are doing well. Keep your loved ones close. That's really all that matters anyway! :)

The Long Runs Continue...

So I've been running for a few months now with 6 weeks of long run Fridays. I started with 10 miles and had a 16 mile run last Friday! Adam and I are taking a few days off this week to spend some time together, so my Long Run will be 10 miles on Wednesday, followed by working a 10 hour shift... May regret that one! I'm still loving it and looking forward to races all summer ranging from 5k's to a FULL Marathon in September. This is a disease... and I believe it is still spreading- (Bubba)! Highly recommended! :)
Note to those who are infected: Invest in some good shoes and a large box of band-aids The fabric kind. I've got a few blisters that may never heal! But fabric bandaids keep my on my feet!

My Brilliant Children

I can't believe I had a hand in making these smart children!

Long Run Friday

15 Miles yesterday!! I wanted to finish in 3 hours. Final time- 3:00:33. I wanted to cry that last 33 seconds- kinda bummed I didn't make it. But really, it's pretty close to my goal... not to bad! I couldn't have even survived 15 miles all at once 4 months ago.The last mile was hard, But I was better prepared for this run than I was for my last long run day. Had snacks and lots of drinks, and I even got the treadmill that maxes out at 99 minutes. My fellow runners know the importance of a continuous run. It was nice to only have to reset once!I'm quite stiff today. May just walk on Monday... Then again, I may not! :)

Running Log: Entry 01.15.2010

I made it! Ran 13.1 miles today (1/2 marathon). Allotted time for the half is 3 hours. I Was hoping to be able to finish the half in Ogden in 2hrs. 45min.
Finished my run today in 2:42:37! I was starving and thought I might pass out by the 8th mile, but I made it! Look out Ogden! Can't wait to see what I can do when I'm properly carbed up!
And look out TOU Marathon in September! Emily, I guess I should ask you (and Willey) to put me up for the weekend! Just waiting for March 1st when I can register for that one!
Yeah for the obsession!
(Thanks Emily for the picture!)

TOU Marathon

The Top Of Utah Marathon is in the fall. September I believe.... I'm already committed to the half marathon in May. The question now is, am I obsessed enough to do a full marathon later this year? What do you think my loyal followers?
BTW.... I ran 10 miles last Wednesday. Felt good! this 1/2 marathon will be a piece of cake, with 800 mg of ibuprofen on the side!
